Application for 2026-2027 Schools of Choice Program - APPLICATION CLOSED

For the 2026-27 school year, the Troy School District will be participating in a Limited Schools of Choice Program for students under 105 (pupils from resident districts within Oakland County) and 105c (pupils from resident districts outside of Oakland County, but contiguous to the border of Oakland County). Currently, if you have an attending Schools of Choice student, and if you have a student entering the following grades, they will be eligible to apply for Sibling Preference placement. ALL applications will be accepted through an ONLINE process only (NO IN PERSON DROP OFF) according to guidelines.

SOC 105 Sibling Preference Kindergarten Application : Lottery # 1-9

All 9 (nine) Kindergarten SOC105 Sibling Preference Applications that were submitted will receive an enrollment slot. Notification of acceptance will be emailed to the parent/legal guardian along with enrollment directions. If the currently enrolled sibling is in KDG-4^th grade for the 25-26 school year, your incoming kindergartener will be placed in the same elementary building. If the currently enrolled sibling is in 5^th-12^th grade, building placement will be decided by the district when enrollment is finalized.

SOC 105c Sibling Preference Kindergarten Application: Lottery #1-4

All 4 (four) Kindergarten SOC105c Sibling Preference Applications that were submitted will receive an enrollment slot. All SOC 105c Non-Resident Applications were pulled in the lottery; #5-56 DID NOT receive an enrollment slot for 26-27 and have been placed on our WAITLIST. If a student who has been awarded an enrollment slot decides to decline placement, starting the third Monday in August, we will award the next spot beginning with #5 and move forward as there is availability. One application (#3) will be placed on a waitlist and awarded an enrollment slot the third Monday in August. Notification of acceptance will be emailed to the parent/legal guardian along with enrollment directions. If the currently enrolled sibling is in 5^th-7^th grade for the 25-26 school year, your incoming student will be placed in the same middle school building. If you have a Schools of Choice student currently attending the Troy School District and that student has an age eligible sibling who wishes to apply for enrollment into Kindergarten or grades 1, 6, 7 and/or 8 for the 2026-2027 school year, they will apply through the Sibling Preference Schools of Choice Application. Siblings will receive first seat placements.

The 2026-2027 Non-Resident Schools of Choice application is NOW CLOSED! There will be an internal lottery held on Tuesday, March 3, 2026. Results of the lottery will be posted here by Friday, March 6. Those awarded an enrollment opportunity will be notified via email with directions to proceed with enrollment.

For the 2026-27 school year, the Troy School District will be opening Limited Schools of Choice placement through Section 105 and 105c as follows:

KINDERGARTEN:

Schools of Choice Section 105 - 83 (eighty-three) slots/seat placements available (pupils from resident districts within Oakland County).

Schools of Choice Section 105C – 4 (four) slots/seat placements available (pupils from resident districts outside of Oakland County, but contiguous to the border of Oakland County).

1st GRADE:

WHEN CAN I SUBMIT A SCHOOLS OF CHOICE APPLICATION?

Siblings of current Schools of Choice students (Sibling Preference) will be emailed directions to apply online through their current PowerSchool Parent Portal on MONDAY, JANUARY 19, 2026. Applications must be completed and submitted by 4:00 PM, TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 17, 2026. (Kindergarten, 1^st, 6^th, 7^th and/or 8^th Grade) - NO EXCEPTIONS. There will be NO IN PERSON drop off.

Schools of Choice (Non-Resident/Non-Sibling Preference) Applications will be posted on the Troy School District website www.troy.k12.mi.us beginning MONDAY, JANUARY 19, 2026. Applications must be completed and submitted by 4:00 PM, TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 17, 2026. NO EXCEPTIONS. There will be NO IN PERSON drop off.

CAN I FAX, EMAIL or DROP OFF MY STUDENT’S APPLICATION?

CAN I CHOOSE WHICH ELEMENTARY SCHOOL I WANT MY CHILD TO ATTEND?

If your elementary student is applying with a Schools of Choice Sibling Preference Application, and the current sibling attending the district is in Kindergarten through Fourth Grade, your incoming Kindergarten or First Grade student will be placed at the same building and on the same learning path (Elementary/Middle/High School).

If you are applying with a Schools of Choice Application (Non-Resident/Non-Sibling Preference) for Kindergarten or First Grade your student will be placed at an available building if you are chosen through the lottery process. There is no “preferred” school placement option on the application. Building placement will be decided later in the enrollment process.

PLEASE NOTE: Barnard, Bemis and Schroeder Elementary have been “CLOSED” by our Board of Education for the 2026-27 school year. This means that only sibling preference enrollments may be assigned to these buildings and are not an option for NEW Schools of Choice students. If a current Schools of Choice student attends any of these buildings and is in Kindergarten through Fourth Grade, the incoming sibling will be placed at the same building and on the same learning path. If the current Schools of Choice Sibling is in 5^th grade at the time of placement, the student will be placed based on building availability and not at any of the “closed” buildings.

CAN I CHOOSE WHICH MIDDLE SCHOOL I WANT MY CHILD TO ATTEND?

NO. Middle School students for both Sibling Preference and Non-Resident/Non-Sibling Preference Applications will be placed per building availability. The Board of Education has “CLOSED” Boulan Park Middle School & Larson Middle School and there will be no new Schools of Choice placements there for the 2026-27 school year.

PLEASE NOTE: The high school building placements for all middle school students who come in through Schools of Choice for the 2026-27 school year will be at Athens High School for 9^th through 12^th grade.

ONCE ALL SCHOOLS OF CHOICE SIBLING PREFERENCE APPLICATIONS HAVE BEEN RECEIVED HOW DOES THE PROCESS MOVE FORWARD?

KINDERGARTEN:

Schools of Choice Section 105 (pupils from resident districts within Oakland County) - 83 slots are available for student placement and 105c (pupils from resident districts outside of Oakland County, but contiguous to the border of Oakland County) we have 4 slots available for student placement. Once the Sibling Preference and Non-Resident/Non-Sibling Preference Application window is closed those applications will be counted. If the total of both Sibling Preference and Non-Resident/Non-Sibling Preference Applications received is more than the allotted placement slots for 105 and 105c, a LOTTERY will be held on TUESDAY, MARCH 3, 2026. There will be one lottery held for 105 applicants and one lottery held for 105c applicants. Sibling Preference Applicants (both 105 and 105c) will receive the first lottery slots for their section. Those applications not chosen for a slot remain on a wait list.

FIRST GRADE:

WHAT IF MY CHILD’S LOTTERY NUMBER IS ABOVE THE NUMBER OF AVAILABLE SLOTS?

IF MY CHILD IS ADMITTED, HOW LONG CAN HE OR SHE REMAIN IN THE TROY SCHOOL DISTRICT?

If your child is admitted through the Schools of Choice Program, the student may remain in the district through graduation if the student complies with all guidelines for Schools of Choice, follows the Troy School District Code of Conduct and does not break enrollment (leave Troy School District and/or enroll in another District). Once enrolled, you do not need to apply each year to remain in the district.
