Band & Orchestra
Music education is an essential part of the Troy School District and deeply ingrained in our culture. It is considered an essential part of our outstanding, comprehensive educational program.
Music development begins in elementary school, where all students explore singing, listening, movement, and composition. In fifth grade, every student picks up an instrument, discovering self-expression through our strings, winds, or percussion programs. While the elementary years focus on fundamental skills, the transition to secondary school sees a remarkable number of students choosing to continue their journey through formalized instruction in bands, choirs, orchestras, musical theatre, and small ensembles.
At the secondary level, the curriculum shifts toward artistic exploration and advanced musicianship. To ensure every student thrives, ensembles are organized by proficiency, allowing for tailored instruction that meets individual needs. Concerts are a natural outgrowth of the classroom, where students refine their craft by listening, analyzing, and performing together. We take great pride in our community’s commitment to music education, believing it is vital to success both in school and in life.
