Earning Credit Through Non-Math Test Out
Policy Guidelines 1-4
TSD will annually provide a test out option for students to demonstrate their preceding knowledge and understanding of course content that meets or exceeds the TSD content expectations associated with the subject credit area.
Students will not be provided with study guides, study materials, or course syllabi. Students can review Michigan state standards for courses for which they wish to attempt to test out. https://www.michigan.gov/mde/services/academic-standards
Successful performance on the test (minimum of 77%) allows a student to be placed in the next course level in sequence.
Successful performance on the test (minimum of 77%) will be acknowledged on the transcript with a G grade (credit, no grade). The earned credit will enumerate towards graduation requirements. There will be no record on the transcript of an unsuccessful attempt to test out.
Policy Guidelines 6-8
Students wishing to test out of a class must complete the “Earning Credit through Non-Math Testing Out Authorization and Notification Form” on PowerSchool (under Forms) by the required deadline determined each school year.
Students are eligible to attempt to test out of any TSD graduation required course.
Middle School students are not eligible to test out of high school courses until they have access to the next sequential curriculum during the next academic school year.
(e.g. A 7th grade student is not eligible to attempt a test out for Introductory Biology because the student will not have access to Chemistry 1 or Physics 1 the following school year as an 8th grade student.)
Students will be notified of their test results within a reasonable time. Results will be reported to students as pass/fail. Tests are secure and are not returned to students for review.
