Parents, Staff and Community Members,
I hope you all had a great holiday break with your families—it’s so good to see everyone back in our schools! I am writing now because we are less than two weeks away from our 2019 Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service and we still need a lot of help with items for our troops and fleece for our blankets.
This event was a HUGE success last year and I know that it will be again this year, thanks to the generosity of our TSD families and friends.
First, you are ALL invited to attend and learn more about the life and legacy of Dr. King on January 21, as well as participate in three on-site service projects. The City of Troy and the TSD partner for this wonderful opportunity to make a difference in our community but we need your help to make it work.
These service projects that will have a positive, direct impact on the lives of people right here in Troy and across Metro Detroit as well as our local members of the military serving abroad. Come join us and you and your children will have the opportunity to:
- Assemble CARE PACKAGES and WRITE CARDS for Troy and Michigan-based members of our military now serving overseas
- MAKE NO-SEW FLEECE BLANKETS for children, veterans and cancer patients at local hospitals
- DONATE BLOOD at our Red Cross blood drive
Donations are being accepted at every TSD school and at our Central Administration Building, 4400 Livernois, Troy.
Finally, as an aside, our Superintendent Student Advisory Board is looking for monetary donations from local businesses to cover the cost of postage for our care packages and other supplies, so if you or someone you know can help out, please email email@example.com or call 248-823-4035.
I am confident that our Troy Community will AGAIN help us make this Day of Service a great event for our City!
