Summer Bridge Course FAQ's

The purpose of the Troy Mathematics Bridge Course is to provide an opportunity for students to advance their knowledge in mathematics and move from Math 6 to Math 7/8 Honors.  This course meets the robust demands of the Troy School District’s mathematics curriculum in a compact, four-week academy setting.  Successful completion of the course allows students to enroll in Math 7/8 Honors in the fall.

Students will learn the units of study from Math 6/7 Honors that are not included in the Math 6 curriculum.  These topics include integers, rational numbers, expressions, equations, ratios, proportions, and percent.  Students will be assigned daily homework to be completed outside of the four hours of class time.  The next course in the honors sequence is Math 7/8 Honors.

Pre-requisite:  Students must have an excellent record in mathematics in each of the first three quarters of Math 6 and teacher recommendation. Please note that students who have been successful in this course in the past have typically earned As in all three quarters.

Frequently Asked Questions:
Is my child guaranteed entrance?
Enrollment is limited.  In the event that there are more qualified students than seats available, a random drawing will be held to determine the students who will be enrolled.  Students not drawn will be placed on a waiting list.

I am going to attempt to test out of the next course in my sequence. If I am not able to test out I would like to attend the Summer Bridge Course. Should I wait for the test out results before applying?
No, please apply during the application window. Enrollment is limited and a course may fill. If you apply and then don’t need the course because you tested out, just let us know. Late applicants will be placed on a waiting list if a course is full.

Is attendance required for the entire session?
Yes. Students are allowed three absences and will then be dropped from the class.
