Troy Parks and Recreation

It is the mission of the Parks and Recreation Department to improve, enhance and extend the quality of life opportunities to Troy residents and community businesses. The Department promotes a healthy lifestyle for all age groups, regardless of physical abilities, and enriches our historic, cultural and natural resources through community interpretive programs. The Troy Parks and Recreation Department was recently named Michigan's #1 Sportstown by Sports Illustrated as a result of its commitment to organized sports.

  • Parks & Facilties -- In addition to the programs offered, the City maintains many parks and facilities. Over 790 acres of park land are owned and maintained including 14 parks ranging in size from the 171 acre Flynn Park, to the 3 acre Redwood Park and seven special use facilities operated by the City. These facilities are the Lloyd A. Stage Nature Center, Farm, Community Center, Family Aquatic Center, Tennis Bubble, and Sylvan Glen Golf Course.
  • Enrichment programs include downhill ski, hunter safety, dance, arts/craft, tennis, golf, preschool, computers, skating and gymnastics. These classes provide a balance between work and play, an outlet for relaxation and build self-esteem.
  • The Lloyd A. Stage Nature Center offers 22 different school programs, 50-60 public programs and nature trails for the enjoyment of residents. Educational and recreational pursuits center around the 100 acres of land and the natural communities found there. Programs like bird hikes, botany classes, weather, wildflowers, maple syruping and Michigan wildlife are just a sample of the services provided.
  • Senior citizen programs include fitness, travel, transportation, athletics and special interest speakers. A growing number of senior citizens are looking for opportunities to maintain vitality, develop personal interests, and find others who share their interests. The Parks and Recreation Department strives to meet these needs and enhance the quality of life through these programs and services.
  • Adaptive Recreation: Over a dozen programs are offered for persons with physical and developmental disabilities including wheelchair basketball, bowling, soccer, dances, performing arts, cooking, and travel.
  • Special events are offered throughout the year for residents. Offered are the Spring Plant Exchange, Egg Scramble, Family Festival, Summer Concert Series and Daddy-Daughter Date Night, as well as others. These events are offered to foster a sense of community, increase family activity, are low cost and close to home.
  • Providing and preserving parks and open space enhances the desirability of the city and contributes to the safety and health of residents. Over 540 acres of park land are maintained by staff. Parks and open space preserve wildlife, protects the ecosystem, reduce pollution and provide clean air and water.

The programs offered and facilities developed and operated by the Parks and Recreation Department have value and benefits which impact the individual, community, environment and economic viability of the City.
