AdvancEd Accreditation Reports

In April, 2008, The Troy School District hosted a team of educators from Michigan, Indiana, Ohio and Kentucky whose task it was to assess the district’s readiness to receive AdvancED* (North Central Association) District-wide accreditation. Accreditation engages the school community in meeting high quality standards, implementing a continuous improvement process, and engaging in quality assurance through internal and external review.

The team: reviewed district documents and performance data; interviewed 175 district, school, and community stakeholders; conducted site visits to six schools; and observed district and school practices.

After three days of investigation and review, the visitation team issued commendations, reported challenges, and made recommendations as part of its final report to the Troy School District. (The team's report is available at the following link.) The team found that Troy School District met the requirements for district wide accreditation. Their recommendation will be reviewed and acted upon by the national AdvancED (North Central) Accreditation Commission this summer.

The District was given a year to respond to the recommendations and suggestions made by the visitation team in their final report.  The response was submitted in June, 2009 and at the annual meeting of AdvancEd in Chicago in the fall of 2009, the Troy School District was awarded full accreditation, at the time one of only 8 districts in Michigan having received this recognition.

*Note: AdvancED is the parent organization for the North Central Association Commission on Accreditation and School Improvement (NCA CASI), the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Council on Accreditation and School Improvement (SACS CASI), and the National Study of School Evaluation (NSSE). NCA CASI and SACS CASI are accreditation divisions of AdvancED. Dedicated to advancing excellence in education worldwide, AdvancED provides accreditation, research, and professional services to 23,000 public and private schools and 4,500 school districts in 30 states and 65 countries.
