Troy voters in June,
2004 approved a $119 million bond issue that has resulted in
the most comprehensive renovation and new construction program
in the district's history. Since shovels first hit the district in 2005, the bond issue has funded improvements
at all 23 facilities in the Troy School District.
Major aspects of the bond issue have included:
- Facility improvements to existing buildings. Some of the
improvements at various sites include repaving of parking
lots, upgrading electrical systems, replacing ceiling tiles,
new roofs, new equipment and renovations at elementary playgrounds,
upgrading HVAC systems, and new media centers at five elementary
schools.
- Improvements to instructional equipment, including music
and band equipment, library books, and new custodial and
food service equipment.
- Replacement of technology at all buildings.
- Creation of a large learning space for group instruction
at each elementary school.
- New bus purchases and improvements to the transportation
facility.
- Improvements to both Athens and Troy High Schools. For
Athens, improvements include renovations to its auditorium,
football stadium and the concession stand. Improvements
at Troy High School include athletic improvements and creating
new classroom space.
- Replacement of Baker Middle School on the existing site.
- The renovation of the existing Baker Middle School into
the east campus of the International Academyl and new space
for mandated special education programs for students between
the ages 18 and 26 years old.
Nearly six years after voter approval, the bond issue is continuing to pay dividends for our community. You can follow this link for summer, 2010 projects.
