Troy School District students and staff are honored for excellence at both national and state levels.

Both Athens and Troy High Schools are two of five schools statewide to have exemplary athletic programs.

Troy students are among the top performers on state and national standardized tests.

The Troy Board of Education is one of 11 boards in the State of Michigan to earn the Standard of Excellence Award and one of eight to earn the Visionary Leadership Award. The Board has also been named the ArtServe board of the year in 2007 and 2008 for its support of the Fine Arts.

The Troy School District has been named one of the 25 best places in America for families who are seeking to relocate to a new community. The Troy community was also named Michigan's best small city and the nation's 22nd best for its quality of schools, parks, and other municipal services.

Note - The Troy School District's open enrollment program is for parents of students who are already enrolled in the school district and wish to attend a school outside their attendance area.

1. Parents/students may request a transfer from one school attendance area to another in order to exercise some freedom of educational choice. Such transfers may be granted only when:

          a. the parent or student is not requesting transfer to avoid meeting legitimate
              academic or conduct requirements;
          b. all minor students have approval of parent/guardian and
          c. staff and facilities of the receiving building can accommodate additional
              student assignments.

2. If limited spaces are available, a lottery system will determine students' acceptance.

3. Transfers, once granted, will remain in effect for at least one school year and continue in effect following that period, unless the student, parent/guardian, or the school takes formal action to rescind the transfer. However, when changing levels, i.e., elementary school to middle school or middle school to high school, reapplication is required to continue attendance outside of the regular attendance area.

4. Students whose residence within the school district changes from one attendance area to another during the school year may complete the year at the school they are currently attending if permission is granted in writing by the superintendent or designee. Staff and facilities at the involved building will be the major determining factor.

5. Students transferring at the high school level, except incoming 9th graders, will be ineligible for interscholastic athletic competition for one semester. To meet the semester requirement, a student must be enrolled and physically present either prior to or on the fourth Monday of a given semester.

6. In cases of conflict, the superitnendent or his/her designee may transfer a student from one attendance area to another when it is deemed to be in the best interest of the student involved.

7. All applications for transfer must use the following form. The parent must complete the appropriate sections of the form and return it to the home attendance area principal who will forward it to superintendent or his/her designee.

8.  Upon receipt of a completed Open Enrollment Application form, the assistant superintendent of elementary instruction or the assistant superintendent for secondary instruction will notify the principal of the school within the student's assigned attendance area and the principal of the requested school. The building principals shall provide the superintendent or his/her designee with their recommendations concerning the transfer request. Transfers involving students remaining in their current facility will be considered immediately. All others will be considered after June 2 for the next school year.

If you have any questions, please contact the principal in your school. If you are unsure which school is in your home base, please check our Attendance Area page. A school directory is located on our web site.
